On my first trip to Peru, I hiked the Inca Trail “the Backway” to Machu Picchu!
During my initial journey to Peru, I trekked the Inca Trail, taking the scenic route known as “the Backway,” leading to Machu Picchu. As I approached the Sun Gate, my heart was pounding with anticipation. I had heard so much about the beauty of Machu Picchu, but nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see.
The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm glow on the ancient ruins that lay before me. I felt a sense of reverence wash over me as I gazed upon the architectural marvels that whispered tales of Inca civilization. It was as if I had stepped back in time, and I was filled with awe and wonder. I stood there for what felt like an eternity, soaking in the breathtaking views and letting the energy of this sacred place seep into my soul. It was a moment that I will never forget.
As I said, “my first trip”, I have since been back some half dozen times and always with that same sense of amazement. Peru and the Peruvian people have a way of grabbing your heart and welcoming you as if you are family.
