For more than three decades, I’ve had the joy of leading annual “Founder’s Trips” alongside my husband, Dan. As the owner and founder of Privada Travel, I’ve always felt that these trips are the heart of what we do. They’re unique in every way—special journeys that bring together our most loyal travelers for an experience that’s as much about connection as it is about exploration. With each Founder’s Trip, we gather a group of people who share a deep love for discovery, adventure, and the camaraderie of traveling with like-minded souls.

These trips are open first to our past guests, and many return year after year. It’s a tradition that’s grown into a community, and one that continues to fuel our passion for creating unforgettable travel experiences. Each year, we pick a new destination that offers a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion. Over the years, these trips have taken us from the historic paths of the Camino de Santiago in Spain, to the vast and wild plains of Kenya and Tanzania, to the serene landscapes of New Zealand.

This past year, we enjoyed an exhilarating rafting journey down the Salmon River with 18 of our most adventurous past guests—a thrilling and bonding experience. This trip was particularly special as it marked the first opportunity for our new partner, Curtis, to join a Founder’s Trip. Welcoming Curtis into this tradition added a fresh and exciting dynamic to the experience. Going forward, we’re excited to bring him into this annual adventure, knowing his presence will contribute to the sense of camaraderie and shared passion that makes these trips so unique.

Each Founder’s Trip is designed with extra-special touches, creating a sense of exclusivity and thoughtfulness in every detail. We often seek out unique accommodations, add personalized experiences, and make sure there’s plenty of time for everyone to connect. There’s something truly wonderful about a group of people who have traveled with us before, each of them bringing their stories, insights, and curiosity. Over dinner, and often with a glass of wine in hand, we find ourselves reminiscing about past journeys, exchanging travel tips, and dreaming about the next adventure on the horizon. It’s in these moments that the real magic happens—where friendships form, laughter fills the air, and travel becomes something much deeper than just seeing a new place.

Through these trips, we’ve gained invaluable insights into what our guests are truly seeking when they travel. They’ve told us about their dream destinations, shared stories of life-changing moments on past trips, and even inspired some of our newest itineraries.
